Date: Tue, 2 Feb 2010 17:12:55 -0800 (PST) From: Seth Grimes To: Safe Takoma Subject: [safetakoma] Notes from meeting notes with MPD-4D A/Cmdr Chisley-Missouri Safe Takoma meeting with MPD-4D A/Cmdr. Kimberly Chisley-Missouri Safe Takoma officers Seth Grimes (president), Faith Wheeler (vice president), and Rasheda Abney (treasurer) met with MPD 4th District Acting Commander Kimberly Chisley-Missouri on Friday, January 29, 2010, at the MPD-4D headquarters. This was an introductory meeting. We related a bit about our personal backgrounds and about Safe Takoma's founding, our Washington DC grants, and our past and most recent activities, especially in cooperation with Coolidge High School. We related our program plans, many of which are contingent on release of expected WDC FY10 funding, and also stressed our concerns about more routine matters such as foot patrols, coordination with the Takoma Park, Maryland Police Department, and neighborhood safety. A/Cmdr Missouri grew up in part in Takoma and did a patrol stint here in an earlier part of her time with the MPD. Her most recent assignment, before coming to MPD-4D, was as Deputy Director of Youth Investigations Division. (Her background is described on-line at http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view,a,1239,q,545443,mpdcNav_GID,1537.asp) A/Cmdr Missouri was particularly interested in Safe Takoma's conflict resolution experience and plans, including at Coolidge, the Takoma Education Center, and the Takoma Rec Center. She is interested in having 4D part of a new WDC initiative for youth offenders; we discussed community conferencing, an approach that Safe Takoma members have experience with. She agreed to take part in a Takoma community meeting in February that would provide an opportunity for her and community members to get acquainted. Safe Takoma will arrange this. She has not yet met Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci although arranging a meeting is on her list of things to do.
